Yerba Mate tea - invigorating 18th Apr, 2011

I was, initially, a little concerned about trying a creasote-y tea. However I was pleasantly surprised. The smell is dark and smokey and almost bitter, but I thought it was OK. The smokeyness was the strongest aroma and it was soft and warm. Upon tasting the tea I wondered where the smokey aroma came from because the taste is smooth and rounded - not harsh and aggresive (which is what creasote brought to mind!). This tea leaves your mouth feeling clean with a slight herbal taste - I can't think how to describe it, but it is very pleasant without being over-powering. Visually the tea is a fresh bright green - a spring green if you will, and that is how it leaves you feeling....with a spring in your step. An interesting tea - I'm glad I took a chance on it, because I really enjoy it.

We run a detox and rejuvenation retreat in Spain, I was given some yerba mate tea pigs as a christmas present, I put them with all the other herbal teas we have here and my guests looooved them. They disappeared within a day, infact there was nearly a fight for the last one in the pack. I am ordering some more - is it possible to buy them by the suitcase full :)

I am a huge fan of Teapigs and always have a variety in my cupboard. I started to drink it when I stopped drinking coffee. I used to have a cup of Yerba Mate in the morning , and sometimes one mid day. I've just been to the doctor and my blood presssure has gone through the roof. I always had high blood pressure , but it has significantly increased since my new regime . This is by no means a complaint , I've swapped over to lemon and ginger first thing now, so just be aware that it does contain natural caffine !

"I began using yerbamate and lapacho tea about 3 mos. ago. I immediately experienced a surge of energy . . . within half-an-hour I was up dancing which is pretty amazing considering I've got MS and spent most of the Spring in a wheelchair. Within 2 days I noticed a lessening of pain and muscle spasms which was fantastic . . . my urinary, bowel and digestive functions have vastly improved . . . There is no doubt that the MS has greatly improved with the herbs as I quit using them for a week and all the old symptoms return.
